The LGGS 11+ test: what's in it
LGGS uses the FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise) Entrance Test, and for 2027 entry it tests only English and maths. The school says the test focuses on the key stage 2 national curriculum taught up to the end of Year 5.
- English: applying knowledge and skills in English
- Maths: applying knowledge and skills in maths
- Question types: a mix of multiple-choice and written answers
- One attempt: a child may take the test only once
The school publishes FSCE familiarisation guides for children and parents, plus an FSCE FAQ, on its Year 7 admissions page. It suggests printing the guide and reading it through carefully.
How places are offered
Places are offered to girls based on the admission tests, under the school's Determined 2027 Admission Policy. The policy, published on the school's Year 7 admissions page, sets out the number of places and the order of priority if more girls qualify than there are places.

How to prepare for the Lancaster Girls' Grammar School 11 plus
The school says the FSCE test doesn't require specialist tutoring and that no specific preparation is necessary. Instead, it encourages children to:
- work well at primary school, with maximum attendance and engagement
- read widely and deeply
- practise maths and problem-solving through everyday examples
- take part in imaginative and critical-thinking discussions at the dinner table
- focus on calmness and confidence rather than pressure
Reading widely is also a good way to grow vocabulary. Our free 11 plus vocabulary list with meanings, the free 11+ vocabulary quiz and our vocabulary games for 11 plus are general vocabulary practice, not FSCE materials. Our Year 5 and Year 6 guides cover timing.
